Pastor arrested for sexual battery on a minor

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Hillsborough pastor was arrested on Monday after an investigation revealed he sexually battered a 17-year-old victim for several years.

Hillsborough detectives say Walter Chuquimia, 59, who was employed as a pastor at Beth-El Farmwork Ministry, was accused of sexually battering the victim multiple times dating back to 2011.

He was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County jail.

He now faces three sexual battery charges.

No other information has been released.

Man who ran in-home daycare arrested for molestation

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A man who runs an in-home daycare with his wife was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious molestation.

Melvin Norris, 60, was arrested on Wednesday.

Sheriff Rick Wells reports the incidents occurred over the last three years at Norris’s home.  The sheriff’s office confirmed Norris and his wife run a licensed in-home daycare called Norris Family Daycare.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was not in the daycare. The victim’s family is acquainted with Norris and his wife.

The victim is an eight-year-old female.

2 women arrested after pills, pot, stolen Glock found, deputies say

RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A pair of Maxton women were arrested after a search of their home turned up drugs, a stolen pistol and other items, the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Wednesday search at a home in the 500 block of Mt. Zion Road uncovered 50 Percocet pills, 39 Xanax pills, eight grams of a substance deputies suspect is cocaine, 150 grams of marijuana, digital scales, plastic baggies, several EBT cards and stolen Glock pistol, deputies said.

  • possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine

7 arrested, 3 wanted after drug bust in McDowell Co.

MCDOWELL CO., N.C. (WSPA) – Three people are wanted in connection to a drug conspiracy, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrested seven suspects during a round-up on Tuesday, but three people were able to get away.

Deputies say 35-year-old Dwayne Bullock is wanted on six counts of conspiracy to traffic heroin, three counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, and one count of continuing a criminal enterprise.

They say 37-year-old Marqueseo Marshay “Pepe” Pearson and 66-year-old William Jackie Pearson, both of Morganton, are wanted on three counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine and one count each of conspiracy to manufacture a Schedule II controlled substance, and aiding and abetting a criminal enterprise.

Woman shot while driving on I-26 in SC

Summerville, SC — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office needs your help finding the person who shot at another car while driving down I-26.

Aliyah Seabrook was driving home from work on I-26 westbound at around 5:45PM on Monday when a bullet flew through her driver’s side window. Deputies reported seeing the hole on the outside of her car and finding the bullet lodged in her passenger door. She was driving a black Nissan Altima and evidence suggests that the shooter was driving a larger vehicle like an SUV or a truck. The bullet came into her car at a downward angle.

Man had 65 fentanyl packets in his stomach at airport, deputies say

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN)  — Deputies captured a man Tuesday who landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport with 65 packets of fentanyl in his stomach, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators had been tipped that Umberto Altamirano was flying from Orlando, Florida, to RDU with “a large amount of fentanyl,” deputies said.

After deputies detained him, Altamirano admitted to having the individual packages in his stomach, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release. He was taken to the hospital, and 767 grams of the drug were ultimately recovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies estimate the drug’s street value at more than $115,000.

Woman gets life for killing other woman, using credit cards

MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing another woman and then using her credit cards to buy thousands of dollars’ worth of high-end electronics.

Florida Today reports that 37-year-old Jennifer Rose Trent was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted of first-degree murder, organized fraud and using the identification of a deceased person.

Authorities say 70-year-old Doris Johnston was killed in January 2015 after allowing Trent and her 7-year-old son to move into her Barefoot Bay home. Investigators say Trent struck Johnston in the head and left her in a laundry room shed for several days before suffocating the older woman with a plastic trash bag.

U.S. doctor charged with performing female genital mutilation

DETROIT, Mich. (WCMH) – An emergency room doctor from Detroit is facing federal charges, accused of performing female genital mutilation on young girls.

Jumana Nagarwala, MD, 44, of Northville Michigan is accused of performing the procedure out of a medical office in Livonia, Michigan, according to a press release from the US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Officials believe this to be the first case of its kind in federal court.

Nagarwala is accused of performing genital mutilation on girls between six and eight years old. According to the complaint, some of the victims even traveled from out of state to have the procedure performed.

SC officer on leave without pay after being arrested in Laurens Co.

BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A Bennettsville police officer has been placed on administrative leave without pay after he was arrested in Laurens County.

According to Larry Turner with the Bennettsville Police Department, Lt. Jimmy Horton was charged in connection with an incident that took place in Laurens County when Horton was not working in a law enforcement capacity for the Bennettsville Police Department.

The press release from Bennettsville police did not say what Lt. Horton was charged with, and Horton is not listed as a current inmate on the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office booking website.
