7 arrested, 3 wanted after drug bust in McDowell Co.

MCDOWELL CO., N.C. (WSPA) – Three people are wanted in connection to a drug conspiracy, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrested seven suspects during a round-up on Tuesday, but three people were able to get away.

Deputies say 35-year-old Dwayne Bullock is wanted on six counts of conspiracy to traffic heroin, three counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine, and one count of continuing a criminal enterprise.

They say 37-year-old Marqueseo Marshay “Pepe” Pearson and 66-year-old William Jackie Pearson, both of Morganton, are wanted on three counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine and one count each of conspiracy to manufacture a Schedule II controlled substance, and aiding and abetting a criminal enterprise.

Woman shot while driving on I-26 in SC

Summerville, SC — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office needs your help finding the person who shot at another car while driving down I-26.

Aliyah Seabrook was driving home from work on I-26 westbound at around 5:45PM on Monday when a bullet flew through her driver’s side window. Deputies reported seeing the hole on the outside of her car and finding the bullet lodged in her passenger door. She was driving a black Nissan Altima and evidence suggests that the shooter was driving a larger vehicle like an SUV or a truck. The bullet came into her car at a downward angle.

Deputies tell News 2 this happened near Exit 199 for Summerville.

Help find ATM fraud suspect in Haywood Co.

HAYWOOD CO., N.C. (WSPA) – The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in finding an ATM fraud suspect.

Investigators say the man is connected to several fraudulent ATM withdrawals throughout the county.

Man had 65 fentanyl packets in his stomach at airport, deputies say

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN)  — Deputies captured a man Tuesday who landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport with 65 packets of fentanyl in his stomach, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office said.

Investigators had been tipped that Umberto Altamirano was flying from Orlando, Florida, to RDU with “a large amount of fentanyl,” deputies said.

After deputies detained him, Altamirano admitted to having the individual packages in his stomach, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release. He was taken to the hospital, and 767 grams of the drug were ultimately recovered, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies estimate the drug’s street value at more than $115,000.

Woman gets life for killing other woman, using credit cards

MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A central Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing another woman and then using her credit cards to buy thousands of dollars’ worth of high-end electronics.

Florida Today reports that 37-year-old Jennifer Rose Trent was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted of first-degree murder, organized fraud and using the identification of a deceased person.

Authorities say 70-year-old Doris Johnston was killed in January 2015 after allowing Trent and her 7-year-old son to move into her Barefoot Bay home. Investigators say Trent struck Johnston in the head and left her in a laundry room shed for several days before suffocating the older woman with a plastic trash bag.

U.S. doctor charged with performing female genital mutilation

DETROIT, Mich. (WCMH) – An emergency room doctor from Detroit is facing federal charges, accused of performing female genital mutilation on young girls.

Jumana Nagarwala, MD, 44, of Northville Michigan is accused of performing the procedure out of a medical office in Livonia, Michigan, according to a press release from the US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Officials believe this to be the first case of its kind in federal court.

Nagarwala is accused of performing genital mutilation on girls between six and eight years old. According to the complaint, some of the victims even traveled from out of state to have the procedure performed.

SC officer on leave without pay after being arrested in Laurens Co.

BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – A Bennettsville police officer has been placed on administrative leave without pay after he was arrested in Laurens County.

According to Larry Turner with the Bennettsville Police Department, Lt. Jimmy Horton was charged in connection with an incident that took place in Laurens County when Horton was not working in a law enforcement capacity for the Bennettsville Police Department.

The press release from Bennettsville police did not say what Lt. Horton was charged with, and Horton is not listed as a current inmate on the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office booking website.

NC inmate escapes with wife’s help, caught same day, deputies say

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A Wayne County jail inmate who escaped from a prisoner work detail Thursday when his wife picked him up in a car was recaptured later the same day, county authorities said.

The husband and wife are now both being held in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Joseph Doyle Perkins was working on a trash detail at about 9 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Woodland Church Road and U.S. Highway 13 just outside Goldsboro when his wife, Layla Perkins, picked him up in a Ford Focus, deputies said.

Soon after, a Wayne County deputy pulled the two over and tried to arrest the escaped man. But Perkins struggled, got away by running across a field and into a wood line, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officer’s car hit by drunk driver while working separate DWI crash

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Raleigh police officer’s car was hit by a drunk driver on Interstate 40 eastbound Wednesday night, police said.

According to authorities, the officer was investigating a DWI-related accident that had just occurred.

Officials said the two incidents happened near exit 295 at Gorman Street around 11 p.m.

An officer was out of his car investigating a drunk driver who had just hit the guardrail and blocked the left lanes of the highway when a second drunk driver came along and hit the back of the officer’s car, officials said.

Police said they arrested the two male drivers and charged them for the separate incidents.

The road was expected to be blocked for approximately two hours. It has since reopened.

Father shot, killed in front of son while trying to help strangers in GA

GAINESVILLE, GA (CNN/WSB) – A family is grieving their father who was shot and killed in front of his son while trying to help two people who waved them down.

“We stopped thinking they needed help,” says Tyler Gayton.

15-year-old Gayton says his dad, Dennis, was killed thinking two stranded men needed a ride.

“He came up, put his head in the window and pulled out the gun and put in his face,” says Tyler. “My dad grabbed it, pointed away from his body. Then the guy jerked back and shot him.”

Tyler says the man tried shooting him, too. He was grazed in the neck by a bullet.

Tyler’s mom Jonie was on the phone and heard the commotion.

“I didn’t even get to say goodbye,” says Jonie.

Gainesville Police say the man in a sketch released is a person of interest in last Tuesday’s shooting.
